All Souls Day

Boys & Girls,

As discussed in class, on Sunday, November 2nd, we honor all the souls who have died after living faithful to the gospel. This is not a sad time! Think of it as a celebration of the lives of those who have gone to God toward their final reward. This week we honor God for the eternal life he made possible for us through his Son, Jesus.

During our prayer circle, we went around and acknowledged special family members and friends who left a lasting impression on our lives. We asked the Lord to hear our prayers.

God of Everlasting Life, may our loved ones who have died rest peacefully in your eternal care. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

This week I asked you to think about the following in your reflection assignment:

Jesus is telling us some wonderful news! For those who believe, death is not an end, but a beginning. It is a passage to a new life that is so extraordinary we can't begin to imagine it. Death does not win. Life wins! How can we help others believe that "life wins"? What are your expectations of this new life? Try to imagine what this new life would be like.

This week's reflection star is Justin. Great job, Justin! Runners up are Anna & Diana. Their responses can be found below:

Justin:

Can you imagine just dying and not existing, not doing anything, not even thinking? You probably can't. I believe people can't because 1.) it's not what happens when you die, and 2.) it's just impossible to imagine. My expectations of this new life is that it is peaceful and built so that all who were good enough to make it there will be forever happy. I imagine it being like earth, people looking like regular people, only there, whatever you want you get, and everlasting peace is what that place is full of. And the ruler of that place is God, with Jesus, Mary, and the first angels at his side.

Anna:

Life wins because when we die our souls keep on going in heaven. When we are living we are always working, but when we die our body is buried and our souls go up to heaven and work. Our souls can never die because we are a spirit and spirits are like ghosts. When I imagine this new life I imagine people in heaven still moving and still seeing other souls that they know and that have died.

Diana:

We should tell those that don't believe to go to church. I think that the new life is like restarting your life and I think that people are safer in heaven than on earth. I think in heaven you can meet more people and become friends with them. You can also become friends with your enemies. You could meet God and Jesus and talk with them about how you feel about heaven, about your family, friends, pets and favorite things back on earth. You can also talk to him about your problems. People should look in the Bible, or tell them to imagine dying and their souls not in heaven. I would tell them to lay down and think about why their answer is wrong.

*************************

This week we reviewed our baptismal font project that we completed last week. Let's remember the four "we believe" statements about Baptism:

1.) Baptism is the foundation of Christian life.
2.) We are freed from sin and become children of God.
3.) We are priestly prophetic & royal people.
4.) Because of our Baptism, we have hope of eternal life.

Many students gave excellent examples as to how they can be priestly, prophetic & royal people in our daily activities. Be sure to keep it up! Remember when we serve, we are giving witness to Jesus.

Homework:
1.) Complete your Baptismal Remembrance Poster with a family member. Be prepared to present your poster to the class.

2.) Post a comment to this website!

Have a great week!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. D.
