First Sunday of Lent

Last week we discussed a reading from the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. This book tells how the story of Noah and the ark ends. Noah, his family, and the pairs of living creatures on the ark have survived the great flood that covered the earth. Now God has placed in the sky a beautiful rainbow as a sign of the covenant between God and his people. God promises that a flood will never again destroy "all mortal beings." A rainbow is a sign of faithful love.

During Noah's time, the flood waters brought death as a punishment for the people's wickedness. For us as Christians today, however, water brings life. But for many people all over the world, water is very scarce and therefore a real luxury.

In last week's reflection assignment I asked you the following:

1.) What will you do to show your respect for the gift of water during this Lenten season?

2.) Name one way you can remind others to show respect for all living creatures.

We have two reflection stars this week. Congratulations to Matt F. and Kayla!

Matt F.

I will turn the water off when not needed to respect the water during the Lent season. I will also not waste too much for any reason. One way I can remind others to show respect for all living creatures is to not hurt them. Another way I can show respect is by recycling to keep the trees alive and make animal habitat more natural. I will also clean the environment so nothing can be harmed and I will never pollute the water. Lent is an important time in Christian life so be happy!

Kayla

I will show my respect for the gift of water during the Lenten season by taking fast showers, turning off the water when I brush my teeth, and will take showers not baths because it takes a lot of water to fill up the bath tub. One way I can remind others to show respect for all living things is by not eating a lot of meat. Also, make sure you water your plants (if you have any) and don't litter.

We also discussed the Stations of the Cross. When we pray the Stations of the Cross, we relive Jesus' long, slow journey to Calvary. As we walk with Jesus, we remember his great love and we pray to walk in that love always.

Homework:

1.) Continue collecting spare change in your Rice Bowl!

2.) Finish "The Road to Glory" worksheet if you didn't complete it in class.

Have a great week!

Many blessings,

Mrs. D.
