Stay Awake!

advent wreath Pictures, Images and Photos

This week we celebrate the beginning of a brand new liturgical year; this is the beginning of the Season of Advent. During Advent, we prayerfully await Jesus coming to us in glory at the end of time; we prayerfully rejoice in Jesus coming to us in the Eucharist and in the goodness we offer others; and we prayerfully prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus two thousand years ago.

In Sunday's Gospel, Jesus tells us to be "on the watch" or "on guard." He's not trying to scare us. Instead he is emphasizing the importance of every minute of every day.

Dear Jesus, we believe you are with us in the Holy Spirit. Help us always to be alert for that day when you will come to us in your glory. Amen.

As discussed in class, there is an old tradition that says each good deed done during Advent is a piece of straw that helps the manager warmer and softer for Baby Jesus. We made our own mangers in class and discussed all the good deeds we have and will do during the Advent season. Be sure to fill up your managers by writing a good deed each day and adding a piece of "hay" each night before you go to bed! Be prepared to talk about your good deeds in class next week.

Below are the good deeds you talked about this week. Keep it up!

1.) I helped decorate for Christmas.
2.) I opened the door for everyone in my classroom.
3.) I helped find peace for others.
4.) I helped out at a nursing home.
5.) I made my bed without my mom telling me to do so.
6.) I help people stay healthy with the weather change.
7.) I helped my mom calm down because she had a bad day.
8.) I helped my friend pick up her books when they all fell.
9.) I helped my mom with the dishes.
10.) I helped my friend build a snow fort.
11.) I helped my sister.
12.) I helped someone with a math worksheet today.
13.) I made a Thanksgiving meal for my Grandpa.
14.) I raked leaves so the yard would be clean.

Loving God, as we light this first candle of Advent, fill our hearts with quiet joy and deep peace. We need the gift of Jesus in our lives; we long for his guidance and direction.

This week I asked you to reflect on the following:

What would you do if you knew you were going to meet Jesus face-to-face today? Write a letter to Jesus today to let Him know. What things would you want Jesus to know about you? Explain.

This week's reflection star is Matt F. Great job, Matt! Matt's response can be found below:

If Jesus were coming today I would be very good, pray and respect Him.

Dear Jesus,
I respect people and I will respect you, too. I go to church and pray. I am a very good person to everybody I know like my mom, dad, sister, aunt and uncle. I also respect others and their belongings. I want you to know that I am a good athlete and I go to church a lot. I am good at helping others and respecting them too.

Homework:
1.) Finish up study guide and turn in next week.
2.) Test on Chapters 4, 5 & 13 (see study guide).
3.) Bring in a toothbrush for our service project if you haven't done so already.
4.) Visit this website and pray!

Have a wonderful week.

Many blessings,
Mrs. D.
